Bundled payment for dialysis on CMS wishlist

CMS is looking into changing payment for dialysis services so they are no longer fee-for-service.
Instead, CMS wants to move to a system of prospective payment: a standard, bundled payment of $198.64 for all dialysis services related to a session for treatment of end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
The bundled amount would cover services in the current composite rate, as well as some items, like oral medication, that are currently billed separately.
The new proposed rate is based on ’07 claims data and adjusted for expected inflation for 2011.
